📖 About this office
The Grand Marais Post Office sits along East Highway 61 in the heart of this North Shore harbor town, a short walk from the Cook County waterfront. It is one of two places locally where residents of the Arrowhead can begin a U.S. passport application without driving hours down the shore.
Staff here process first-time passport books and cards and can handle applications for children and minors, forwarding the paperwork to the State Department after verifying your identity and documents. Because a passport agent has to review each file in person, acceptance is handled by appointment rather than at the general retail window, so it helps to plan ahead during the busy summer travel season.
If this location is booked, the other Grand Marais acceptance office at the county courthouse offers the same service just up the hill.
💡 Good to know
Call ahead to reserve a passport acceptance appointment; walk-in acceptance is not guaranteed even during posted retail hours. Bring your original citizenship document (certified birth certificate or naturalization certificate), a valid photo ID plus a photocopy, and separate payment for the State Department fee and the acceptance fee.
