The office takes brand-new passport applications and applications for minors on behalf of the U.S. Department of State. Appointments are scheduled by phone, typically for weekday slots between mid-morning and mid-afternoon, and the staff will verify your documents and witness your signature before the paperwork is sent on for processing.
The courthouse does not shoot passport photos, but you can have one taken at the nearby Grand Marais DMV before your appointment. If the county calendar is full, the post office in town offers the same acceptance service.
