π About Frankfort
Frankfort sits at the heart of Clinton County in central Indiana, and residents here have two solid ways to begin a passport application without leaving town. Whichever you choose, both accept the DS-11 form for first-time applicants, children, and anyone whose previous book cannot be renewed by mail.
If you are running everyday errands or want the familiarity of the counter, the Frankfort Post Office on Washington Avenue handles applications through the USPS appointment system. If you prefer a government office or are already at the courthouse, the Clinton County Clerk of Courts on Courthouse Square accepts applications by appointment as well. Families with children should note that minors under 16 need both parents or guardians present, so plan the visit accordingly.
There is no passport agency in Indiana itself, so applicants needing an in-person agency for urgent travel look north to the Chicago Passport Agency, roughly two hours and about 120 miles up I-65. For routine trips, applying early in Frankfort and mailing well ahead of your departure is the simplest path.
π‘ Good to know
Both Frankfort offices work by appointment, so book before you go and double-check the documents you need. Neither reliably offers passport photos, so have one made at a local studio first. For statewide context and other nearby towns, see our Indiana passport guide.
