📖 About this office
Tucked inside Carson's City Hall complex on E. Carson Street, the City Clerk Department doubles as a passport acceptance facility — a convenient option for residents who prefer a municipal setting over a post office. The office sits directly across from Dominguez Park, making it easy to combine errands on the same trip. Clerks are authorized to witness DS-11 applications, verify identity and citizenship documents, and administer the required oath before forwarding completed packages to the State Department.
Hours for passport services are Monday through Thursday, 9:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., by appointment only. Call (310) 952-1720 to reserve a slot; the office is closed Friday through Sunday for passport intake. Because this is a municipal office with a limited daily appointment window, scheduling at least two to three weeks in advance is strongly recommended during peak travel season. The Carson passport guide lists all three local acceptance sites if your preferred date isn't available here.
Minors under 16 must appear in person with both parents or legal guardians (or one parent with a notarized statement of consent from the absent parent). Staff can advise on the DS-3053 consent form if needed.
💡 Good to know
The City Clerk office does not process renewals independently — all packages go to the State Department via mail, same as any acceptance facility. Bring your completed DS-11 (unsigned), original birth certificate or naturalization certificate, a valid government-issued photo ID, and two passport photos. Fees are split: an acceptance fee payable to the City of Carson and the application fee payable to the U.S. Department of State. For urgent travel within 14 days, the California passport agency page covers how to reach the Los Angeles Passport Agency for expedited walk-in service.
