π About Greenville
Greenville is the seat of Greenville County and the largest city in South Carolina's Upstate, so it draws passport applicants from across the region's mills-turned-tech corridor and its growing downtown. Two USPS branches handle in-person applications here, and choosing between them mostly comes down to geography and whether you still need a photo.
If you are downtown or want to knock out your photo in the same visit, the Greenville Main Post Office on West Washington Street is the one to book, since it takes 2x2 photos on site. Families on the eastside near Haywood Road often find Keith Oglesby Station on Orchard Park Drive closer, though that branch does not take photos, so bring one with you.
Note that the Greenville County Register of Deeds passport office is currently closed, so the two post offices are the practical acceptance points in the city for now. Both require an appointment made through the official USPS scheduler.
South Carolina has no in-state passport agency, so the nearest federal facility for urgent, appointment-only service is the Atlanta Passport Agency, roughly a two-hour, 145-mile drive down I-85. For routine travel, applying early at one of the local South Carolina post offices is the simpler route.
π‘ Good to know
Book early: both Greenville branches accept passports by appointment only through tools.usps.com/rcas/, and downtown photo slots fill fast. First-time applicants and all minors must appear in person. The county Register of Deeds office is closed for passports, so plan around the two post offices. Compare your options on the South Carolina passport page.
