π About Wilmington
Wilmington is Delaware's largest city and the seat of New Castle County, and it offers the widest choice of passport acceptance offices in the state. Whether you're a first-time applicant, renewing for a child or helping a relative apply, you can lodge your application at one of three U.S. Post Office acceptance facilities spread across the city.
Downtown, the Rodney Square Station on Delaware Avenue serves the business district and anyone arriving by train. To the north, the Talleyville Postal Store on Concord Pike is convenient for Brandywine Hundred and the suburbs, while the Greenville Branch on Kennett Pike covers the western neighbourhoods near the Pennsylvania line. All three accept form DS-11 for new and first-time passports and require an appointment booked through the USPS scheduler.
For urgent international travel within 14 days an acceptance office isn't enough β the nearest passport agency is in Philadelphia, about 22 miles (25β35 minutes) up I-95, and it works by appointment for time-sensitive cases. For most travellers, a local Wilmington office plus routine processing is all that's needed.
Fees, the documents to bring and current processing times are the same statewide; you'll find them laid out in our Delaware passport guide.
π‘ Good to know
Appointment slots across all three offices fill fastest in spring and early summer. If your preferred location is booked, check the others β they're within a short drive. Renewals that qualify by mail don't need an acceptance office at all.
