📖 About this office
The UCSB Department of Recreation Customer Service Center at 516 Ocean Road, Room 1106, on the UC Santa Barbara campus is one of the more unusual passport acceptance facilities in California — a university recreation department that holds official U.S. Government Passport Acceptance Facility status. Located within the Recreation Center building near the Mesa Garage, the office is staffed by certified acceptance agents and serves both university-affiliated individuals and members of the general public from across the Santa Barbara South Coast.
This facility accepts only DS-11 new passport applications — it does not process DS-82 renewal forms, so applicants seeking to renew an unexpired or recently expired passport must use a different location. Passport photos can be taken on-site for a $15 fee. Appointments are mandatory and are typically scheduled on Tuesdays and Wednesdays; walk-ins are not accepted. Contact the UCSB Recreation passport team at recreation-ucsbpassports@ucsb.edu to schedule.
For applicants in the Goleta or UCSB corridor, this campus option can be more convenient than traveling to downtown Santa Barbara. Compare all available facilities at the Santa Barbara passport offices page, or explore other California acceptance locations if you are traveling from further afield.
💡 Good to know
UCSB Recreation accepts DS-11 new passport applications only — do not visit here for DS-82 mail-in renewals, as they cannot process those. Appointments are limited and book up quickly during the spring semester when student travel peaks. Parking is available at Lot 18 or the Mesa Garage with a fee at the kiosk. Contact Juanita Spitzer at recreation-ucsbpassports@ucsb.edu or call (805) 893-3552 to confirm availability and schedule your appointment at least a week in advance.
