Stafford Post Office

The Stafford Post Office sits along Jefferson Davis Highway (U.S. Route 1) at 2650, a short drive from the county government complex near Stafford Courthouse. As a designated USPS passport acceptance facility, it handles new applications for residents across central Stafford County who cannot renew by mail — typically first-time adults, children under 16, and anyone whose most recent passport was issued more than 15 years ago or before their 16th birthday.

An acceptance agent here reviews your completed Form DS-11, checks your proof of citizenship and photo identification, witnesses your signature, and seals everything into the official envelope that travels to a State Department processing center. Because agents also handle regular retail mail, passport service runs on a dedicated appointment schedule rather than a walk-up line.

This branch is one of two USPS acceptance points serving the county; the other is the Falmouth Branch farther south toward Fredericksburg. If your travel date is close, compare openings at both before you commit.

Book your appointment before you arrive — this office does not take passport walk-ins, and the schedule fills up in the weeks before school breaks and summer travel. Bring an unsigned DS-11, original proof of U.S. citizenship (certified birth certificate or prior passport), a valid photo ID plus a photocopy of it, and separate payment for the State Department fee and the acceptance fee.
