📖 About this office
The Salt Lake County Clerk runs a passport acceptance counter inside the county complex at 2001 South State Street, a short drive south of downtown. As the office that already handles marriage licenses, elections and public records for the county, the Clerk is a natural place to have a new passport application reviewed, sworn and forwarded to the State Department.
Staff here accept first-time adult applications and applications for children, check your Form DS-11 and supporting documents, witness your signature, and collect the federal acceptance fee. Everything is handled by appointment, which keeps wait times predictable even during the busy spring and summer travel season.
Because this counter sits in the Utah state capital, it is one of several options in town; if the county schedule is full you can compare it with the post office windows listed on our Salt Lake City page or with other acceptance sites across Utah.
💡 Good to know
Bring your completed DS-11 unsigned (you sign in front of the clerk), proof of citizenship plus a photocopy, and a photo ID. This is a government service counter rather than a photo studio, so arrange your passport photo in advance. For the full lineup of counters in town, see our Salt Lake City guide.
