📖 About this office
The Eaton County Register of Deeds occupies the county complex at 1045 Independence Boulevard on the north side of Charlotte, and it doubles as a U.S. passport acceptance facility for the whole county. Charlotte is the Eaton County seat, so residents from Grand Ledge, Potterville, Olivet and the surrounding townships often handle their applications here rather than driving to a metro post office. Staff verify your identity, witness your signature, and forward your paperwork to a State Department center for printing.
Service is by appointment, arranged through the county office, and the counter keeps government business hours during the week. Come with your unsigned DS-11, an original birth certificate or naturalization certificate, a driver's license or state ID plus a photocopy, and separate payments for the passport fee and the county acceptance fee. Passport photos are generally not taken on site, so arrive with a compliant photo already in hand.
If a downtown location is easier for your schedule, the post office alternative is listed on our Charlotte passport guide, and you can browse other counties through the Michigan passport directory.
💡 Good to know
This is a county office, so it follows weekday government hours and typically closes to the public on Fridays; confirm the current schedule before you go. Photos are usually not offered here, so plan ahead. First-time applicants and children must appear in person, and minors under 16 need both parents or a guardian with documentation. See the downtown branch on the Charlotte overview if that is closer.
