📖 About this office
The Central Square Post Office sits at 770 Massachusetts Avenue, in the busy commercial heart of Cambridge midway between MIT and Harvard. As a designated USPS passport acceptance facility, it processes first-time applications for adults and minors who cannot renew by mail, executing the DS-11 form and forwarding your paperwork to the State Department.
Because Central Square is one of the easiest spots in the city to reach by Red Line or by the many bus routes that converge on Mass Ave, it tends to be the default choice for residents who work downtown or study nearby. Staff here can also take the regulation 2x2 passport photo during your visit, so you can complete the whole submission in one appointment.
Passport acceptance is handled by appointment. Book a slot through the USPS scheduler before you go, bring your completed DS-11 (unsigned), proof of citizenship, and a valid photo ID. For other offices around the city, see our Cambridge passport office guide.
💡 Good to know
Appointments at Central Square fill quickly during spring and early summer travel season, so book a week or two ahead when you can. If you cannot find a nearby slot, compare openings at other Cambridge acceptance offices or elsewhere in Massachusetts.
