📖 About this office
Denver County Court at 520 West Colfax Avenue, Room 160, is one of the city's alternative passport acceptance venues — a civic option for residents who prefer a government courthouse setting over a post office. Located in the Denver Civic Center neighborhood, it sits within walking distance of the State Capitol and the Denver Art Museum, making it straightforward to reach by RTD bus or light rail. The court accepts first-time adult applications, child passport applications, and replacement applications for lost or stolen documents.
Hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 3:30 PM, with appointments preferred. Notably, this location does not take passport photos on-site, so you'll need to arrive with photos already in hand. The court also does not accept cash or credit cards — payment must be in the form of a personal check or money order, which is an unusual requirement worth planning for ahead of time.
For applicants who need to act urgently, the Colorado Passport Agency in Centennial (about 10 miles south) handles emergency issuance for travelers departing within 14 days. For a full picture of all acceptance points across the city, visit the Denver passport offices page, or see how Denver compares to other options in our Colorado passport acceptance guide.
💡 Good to know
This court location has two quirks to prepare for: no passport photos are taken on-site (get yours in advance at a pharmacy or camera shop), and the fee structure requires a personal check or money order — credit cards and cash are not accepted. Come with two separate payment instruments: one for the acceptance fee, one made out to the U.S. Department of State. Appointments are preferred; call (720) 337-0410 to schedule.
