The Bob Herzfeld Memorial Library on Smithers Drive is the headquarters branch of the Saline County Library, and it remains a working passport acceptance facility with its own online appointment calendar. Because it is a county government library funded by county taxes rather than a private nonprofit, it is not affected by the 2026 rule that ended passport acceptance at charitable 501(c)(3) libraries.
For many Benton families it is the friendliest option, with weekday and Saturday appointment windows that fall outside courthouse hours. Staff accept new and child applications and verify your documents before sending them on. It is one of three acceptance points in Benton; the Saline County Circuit Clerk is the downtown government alternative if you prefer applying at the courthouse.
