📖 About this office
The Aniak Post Office sits on Boundary Avenue in the heart of this small Kuskokwim River village, and it's the one place in town where residents can apply for a U.S. passport in person. As the community's only mail facility, it handles everything from package pickup to passport intake, so it's a familiar stop for locals — but passport service is handled separately from the regular counter and needs to be arranged ahead of time.
This office accepts applications that can't be mailed: first-time adult passports, all children's passports, and replacements for lost or damaged books. If you already qualify to renew by mail, you generally won't need to come in at all. Because Aniak is off the road system, plan your visit around a flight or river trip rather than a quick drive, and confirm your slot before you travel. You can compare it with other acceptance facilities across Alaska if you're passing through the region.
There's no passport agency anywhere in the state, so for urgent cases the fallback is a costly trip to Seattle. For nearly all Aniak applicants, the sensible move is to start early at this local post office and let standard processing run its course.
💡 Good to know
Aniak is fly-in only, so don't count on walking in unannounced — passport acceptance here is by appointment and retail hours are limited. Bring your completed (unsigned) DS-11, original citizenship proof, and photo ID. If you're only renewing an eligible adult book, you can likely mail it in and skip the counter. Federal fees and where the nearest agency sits are both spelled out on the Alaska passport page.
