π About Blackfoot
Blackfoot sits in the heart of Bingham County in eastern Idaho, on the corridor between Idaho Falls and Pocatello along I-15, and it gives local residents two convenient ways to apply for a first passport, a child's passport, or a renewal that needs to be submitted in person. Both options are downtown and within a few blocks of each other, so most Bingham County families never need to drive out of town to get the process started.
If you want photos and postage handled in one stop, the Blackfoot post office on West Pacific Street is the practical choice, since USPS can take your acceptance-agent submission and mail the sealed packet to the State Department for you. If you'd rather deal with a county office and are already visiting the courthouse campus for other business, the Bingham County Clerk on North Maple Street also serves as a passport acceptance agent by appointment. Either way, both accept the DS-11 form used for new and child applications; simple adult renewals that qualify for the DS-82 form can be mailed in directly and don't require an appearance.
Idaho does not have its own regional passport agency, so the nearest option for genuinely urgent, in-person same-week service is the Seattle Passport Agency, roughly a 700-mile drive to the west. Because that trip is impractical for most people in eastern Idaho, the smart move is to apply early at one of the Blackfoot offices and pay for expedited processing if your travel date is tight. Our Idaho passport page holds the statewide guide with fees, what to bring and current processing times.
π‘ Good to know
Both Blackfoot offices work by appointment for passport applications, so call ahead rather than dropping in unannounced. Bring proof of U.S. citizenship (a certified birth certificate), a valid photo ID, and a completed but unsigned DS-11 form, since the acceptance agent must witness your signature. Applicants under 16 need both parents present. For a side-by-side of the two locations, see the Blackfoot listings above.
