📖 About this office
The Johnson City Main Post Office stands on the east side of downtown at 530 E. Main Street, and it's the traditional stop for Washington County residents applying for a first passport or renewing one that can't be handled by mail. Passport applications here are accepted by appointment, so this isn't a walk-up counter — you reserve a slot in advance and bring your completed DS-11, proof of citizenship and identification. It's one of the two acceptance points listed on our Johnson City passport page.
Downtown parking is metered street parking along East Main and nearby side streets, with a public garage on Market Street a short walk away for longer visits. Because it's a working postal branch, you can pair your passport appointment with mailing or PO box errands. Before you go, the Tennessee passport guide covers statewide fees and document rules.
💡 Good to know
Appointments are required for passport service here, so call ahead rather than dropping in. Give yourself extra minutes for metered downtown parking or use the Market Street garage. If your preferred time is full, the campus alternative on the Johnson City page may have earlier openings.
