Kankakee County Clerk

The Kankakee County Clerk's office handles passport applications from the county administration building at 189 E. Court Street, in the heart of downtown Kankakee. As a designated acceptance facility, staff here review your paperwork, witness your signature, and forward first-time adult and child applications to the U.S. Department of State on your behalf.

Because the clerk's office also issues certified birth records, it is a practical stop if you still need the birth certificate that backs your passport application. Appointments are required, so call (815) 937-2990 before you go, and remember that the $35 execution fee is paid to the county while the passport fee itself goes to the State Department.

Passport photos are taken on site for $12, which spares you a second errand. If this location does not fit your schedule, the nearby Kankakee post office is another accepting agent within the same downtown blocks.

Applications are accepted by appointment only, so phone ahead to reserve a slot. Bring a certified birth certificate showing your parents' names, a valid photo ID such as a driver's license, and separate payments: a check or money order for the State Department and the $35 county execution fee.
