📖 About this office
The Birmingham Main Office Window sits inside the city's central post office at 351 24th Street North, a short walk from the downtown business district and the Birmingham-Jefferson Convention Complex. As the flagship USPS branch for the metro, it is the busiest passport acceptance point in Jefferson County and the natural first stop for downtown workers, students commuting in from the suburbs, and families running errands nearby.
Trained acceptance agents here handle first-time adult applications, passport books and cards, and applications for minors, and they can witness your signature and forward your paperwork to the State Department. Because demand runs high downtown, an appointment is required rather than a walk-up window; the office also takes compliant passport photos on site so you can complete everything in one visit.
If your travel date is close, remember this is an acceptance facility, not a full regional agency — for same-week emergencies the nearest agency is in Atlanta. For a full rundown of the other counters around the metro, see our Birmingham passport page.
💡 Good to know
Downtown parking fills up on weekday mornings, so allow extra time and bring a photocopy of your citizenship document — the window does not make copies for you. If this location is booked out, a neighborhood branch like the Crestline office in Birmingham may have earlier openings.
