📖 About this office

The Tompkins County Clerk's office, on the ground floor of the county building at 320 North Tioga Street in downtown Ithaca, is one of two designated passport acceptance points in the city. Because it sits inside the county's own records office, it is a practical stop for residents who are already handling deeds, DBA filings, or a driver-license transaction and want to submit a passport application in the same visit.

As a designated acceptance agent, the Clerk's staff review new adult applications, first-time child applications, and cases where a passport was lost, stolen, or damaged and cannot be renewed by mail. An agent checks your identity, witnesses your signature, and seals the completed packet for mailing to the State Department. Note that this office does not take passport photos, so bring a compliant 2x2 photo with you.

Downtown parking near the Commons can fill quickly, so allow extra time. If the Clerk's schedule does not fit yours, the other option in town is covered on our Ithaca passport page, and every acceptance point across the state is listed on our New York passport offices guide.

💡 Good to know

Bring a completed Form DS-11 (do not sign it until the agent tells you to), proof of citizenship such as a certified birth certificate, a photo ID with a photocopy, and a 2x2 passport photo, since this office does not shoot photos on site. Two separate payments are needed: the State Department fee and the county's acceptance fee. For a second option in town, see the Ithaca office listings.
